Abstract

The article presents a study of a Hellenistic Corinthian capital (240 BC) from Hermopolis Magna in Egypt. Vitruvian proportions were only partly confirmed, prompting a geometric analysis.

The geometric diagrams confirmed that the design resulted from a system of figures inscribed in larger and smaller circles corresponding to the lower and upper diameters of the column shaft.
